Cairns luthier Allen McFarlen of Barron River Guitars & Ukuleles is very generously supporting Ukulele BBQ 2015 by making and donating a beautiful tenor uke for the purposes of raising funds for the BBQ.
That instrument has been completed and has been put up for auction.
Thank you Allen McFarlen for your continued support!

Here’s the building process (Click any image to enlarge):
- The BBQ Uke beginnings
- East Indian Rosewood Fingerboard
- Rosette made from Curly Maple and Paua Shell
- Back is all ready to install. 2 wash coats of shellac applied
- Top is braced and voiced – Careful shaping of the fan braces and final sanding
- Bending the sides over a solid form with a silicon heat blanket
- Sides are glued to the soundboard and neck
- Inside the body has 2 wash coats of blond shellac to help buffer any wild swings in humidity
- Back glued on, flush trimmed the top and back to the sides, sanded up the body ready to install the bindings
- Bindings glued and bound
- Fretboards glued
- Fretboards clamped
- Bindings rounded and neck carved
- The big wait as the pore-filling clear epoxy cures
- Just before the last coat of a semi gloss mix
- All the lacquer applied and time for set up!
